Irrigation Zone Water Balance and Flow Monitoring | Application Brief
Application planning | Manufacturer reference and ProSense commentary
Plan irrigation zone water balance and flow monitoring around the measurements, communications and operator response your site needs. Explore an application concept and the questions to settle before supply.

JUJEA lists agricultural irrigation among its flow-measurement applications. The following is an illustrative planning approach, not a report of a ProSense installation or verified water savings.
Compare a source with its destinations
A water-balance application compares the metered supply with measured zone use over the same time window. Start with a hydraulic layout: show storage, branches, bypasses and any unmetered users. Without that boundary, a difference between totals may be expected rather than evidence of a leak.
Design around irrigation events
Record which zone is operating, its start and stop time, and the units of each total. Align the reporting periods before comparing volumes. A shared source meter can help reveal a change in overall demand, while zone meters can narrow the area to investigate. Device clocks, reporting delays and tank storage changes affect interpretation.
Keep measurement separate from automatic control
The initial system can be scoped for observation and exception reporting. Automatic valve or pump control introduces additional requirements, including local protection, communications-loss behaviour and authority to change operation. An abnormal pattern should first lead to a field check against the actual watering schedule.
Define an acceptance test
For a proposed pilot, test one known zone, compare the recorded total with a suitable reference and verify the trend during start, steady flow and stop. Document pulse scaling or digital registers, missing-data handling and the measurement boundary. Expansion should follow evidence that the pilot answers the operator's question.
