DRAGINO Smart Ultrasonic Distance Sensor with Solar Power Option
DRAGINO Smart Ultrasonic Distance Sensor with Solar Power Option is a LoRaWAN distance detection sensor that uses ultrasonic technology to measure the distance between the sensor and a flat object. It provides a measurement range of 30 mm to 4500 mm with an accuracy of ±(1 cm + S × 0.3%), where S is the measured distance. Internal temperature compensation helps improve measurement reliability, while LoRaWAN connectivity allows measured data to be transmitted wirelessly to an IoT server. The DDS45-LS uses solar power with a 3000 mAh Li-ion battery, while the DDS45-LB uses an 8500 / 19000 mAh Li/SOCl2 battery.
The DRAGINO Smart Ultrasonic Distance Sensor with Solar Power Option is designed for remote measurement of the distance between the sensor and a flat object. It uses ultrasonic sensing technology and incorporates internal temperature compensation to improve the reliability of distance measurements.
The measured distance is transmitted wirelessly to a LoRaWAN IoT server. This allows the sensor to be installed at remote locations where continuous wired connections may not be practical.
The sensor has a specified flat-object measurement range of 30 mm to 4500 mm, with an accuracy of ±(1 cm + S × 0.3%). The measurement angle is 60 degrees.
Two power configurations are available. The DDS45-LB uses an 8500 / 19000 mAh Li/SOCl2 battery, while the DDS45-LS uses a solar panel with a 3000 mAh Li-ion battery. Dragino states that the product is designed for long-term use of up to five years.
How it works
- The ultrasonic sensor emits ultrasonic signals towards the measurement target.
- The sensor determines the distance between itself and the measured object.
- Internal temperature compensation is used to improve measurement reliability.
- The measured distance is transmitted wirelessly to a LoRaWAN IoT server.
- The sensor operates using LoRaWAN 1.0.3 Class A communication.
- Sensor parameters can be changed using AT commands or LoRaWAN downlink commands.
- Bluetooth v5.1 can be used for configuration.
- Wireless OTA firmware updates are supported.
- The default uplink interval is 20 minutes according to Dragino's documentation, and this interval can be changed.
Why choose this product?
- Ultrasonic distance measurement: Provides non-contact measurement between the sensor and target.
- Long measurement range: Supports flat-object measurements from 30 mm to 4500 mm.
- Wireless LoRaWAN connectivity: Allows measurements to be transmitted to an IoT platform without a wired data connection.
- Temperature compensation: Helps maintain more reliable distance measurements across changing conditions.
- Choice of power configuration: The LB and LS versions provide different power options for different installation requirements.
- Remote configuration: Bluetooth and LoRaWAN configuration options simplify device setup and ongoing management.
- Outdoor-ready enclosure: The IP66 enclosure is designed to provide protection for outdoor installations.
Benefits
The DDS45 can be used where a remote system needs to know how far an object or surface is from the sensor. Because measurement is performed without physical contact, it can be useful for monitoring liquid levels, objects, vehicle positions and other targets.
For installations without convenient access to mains power, the DDS45-LS solar-powered version combines a solar panel with a rechargeable 3000 mAh Li-ion battery.
