DRAGINO NB-IoT Soil Moisture & EC Sensor Transmitter
DRAGINO NB-IoT Soil Moisture & EC Sensor Transmitter is an NB-IoT soil monitoring sensor designed to measure soil moisture, soil temperature and soil conductivity. It supports up to four external sensor probes with 3.5 metre probe cables and uses the FDR method for soil moisture measurement with temperature and conductivity compensation. Measurements can be transmitted to an IoT server using MQTT, MQTTs, UDP, TCP or CoAP. Probe sold separately.
The DRAGINO NB-IoT Soil Moisture & EC Sensor Transmitter is designed for remote soil monitoring where measurements need to be collected and transmitted over an NB-IoT network.
The sensor monitors three key soil parameters - moisture, temperature and conductivity. Soil moisture is measured using the FDR method, with temperature and electrical conductivity compensation. Dragino states that the sensor has been factory calibrated for mineral soil and is designed for saline-alkali and loamy soil.
The transmitter can accommodate up to four external sensor probes, each with a stated probe length of 3.5 metres. Measurements can be sampled multiple times before being sent in a single uplink, helping support periodic remote monitoring.
How it works
- The external probes measure soil moisture, soil temperature and soil conductivity.
- Soil moisture is calculated using the FDR measurement method, with compensation from soil temperature and conductivity.
- The DRAGINO NB-IoT Soil Moisture & EC Sensor Transmitter collects the sensor readings and can periodically transmit them over an NB-IoT network.
- Data can be sent to an IoT server using MQTT, MQTTs, UDP, TCP or CoAP.
- Bluetooth 5.1 can be used for remote configuration and firmware updates.
- Downlink communication can be used to change device configuration.
Why choose this product?
- Three soil measurements in one system - monitors moisture, temperature and conductivity.
- NB-IoT connectivity - enables wireless transmission of measurements to an IoT server without requiring a local wired data connection.
- Up to four probes - provides flexibility for monitoring multiple soil measurement points.
- Remote configuration - Bluetooth 5.1 support allows configuration and firmware updates.
- Multiple communication protocols - MQTT, MQTTs, UDP, TCP and CoAP are supported for different IoT server requirements.
- Low-power design - the manufacturer specifies ultra-low power consumption and a built-in 8500/19000 mAh Li/SOCl2 battery, Solar panel + 3000mAh Li-ion battery or 1000 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery
Benefits
It provides a practical way to collect soil data remotely and make measurements available through an IoT platform. Its combination of multiple soil measurements, NB-IoT communication and configurable uplink methods makes it suitable for distributed monitoring systems where regular field measurements are required.
