ACREL Wireless Temperature Sensor - CT Powered is a CT-powered wireless temperature sensor for monitoring heating points in electrical switchgear. It uses wireless transmission at 470 MHz, with a stated communication distance of up to 150 metres in open space and a 15-second sampling cycle. The sensor is designed for installation on busbars, cable connections and other high-current electrical connection points where continuous temperature monitoring can help identify abnormal heating.

Quantity

The ACREL Wireless Temperature Sensor - CT Powered is a wireless temperature sensor developed for temperature monitoring within electrical switchgear and other high-current electrical equipment. Instead of requiring individual wired temperature signal connections, the sensor measures temperature at the selected heating point and transmits the measured data wirelessly to a compatible receiving device or remote monitoring system.

The sensor is CT-powered, using current sensing from the monitored electrical circuit. Acrel specifies a starting current of at least 5 A for the CT induction power extraction arrangement. This makes the ACREL Wireless Temperature Sensor - CT Powered suited to installations where supplying a separate power cable to each temperature sensor would be impractical.

How it works

  • The sensor is fixed to the required temperature monitoring point inside the electrical equipment.
  • CT induction provides operating power from the monitored circuit.
  • The ACREL Wireless Temperature Sensor - CT Powered measures the temperature at the installation point.
  • Temperature data is transmitted wirelessly at the specified 470 MHz frequency.
  • A compatible receiving or monitoring device can collect the transmitted temperature information for local or remote monitoring.

Why choose this product?

  • Wireless temperature measurement reduces the need for individual temperature signal wiring inside switchgear.
  • CT-powered operation avoids a separate conventional power supply connection at the sensor.
  • Fast 15-second sampling provides frequent temperature updates for monitoring electrical connection points.
  • 150 metre open-space communication distance provides flexibility when positioning sensors and the associated receiving equipment. Actual distance inside electrical installations will depend on the surrounding environment.
  • The compact sensor is intended for fixed installation on electrical heating points using the manufacturer's specified fixing arrangement.

Benefits

The ACREL Wireless Temperature Sensor - CT Powered can provide ongoing visibility of temperature at electrical connection points that may otherwise be difficult to monitor continuously. Monitoring temperature changes can help maintenance personnel identify abnormal heating conditions and investigate potential electrical connection or loading issues before they develop into more serious equipment problems.

Its wireless design also allows multiple sensing points to be incorporated into a temperature monitoring system without requiring a separate signal cable from every sensor.
