DRAGINO LoRaWAN 60 GHz Microwave Radar Distance Sensoris a LoRaWAN microwave radar distance sensor designed to measure the distance between the sensor and an object. It uses 60 GHz FMCW radar with a measuring range of 15 to 1200 cm and a resolution of 1 cm. Microwave radar can provide reliable distance detection in environments affected by condensation or dust, making the sensor suitable for distance measurement, liquid level monitoring, parking management, object detection and other remote monitoring applications.

The DRAGINO LoRaWAN 60 GHz Microwave Radar Distance Sensor is a wireless LoRaWAN microwave radar distance sensor for applications where reliable, remote distance measurement is required. It uses 60 GHz FMCW radar to detect the distance between the sensor and the first detected object.

With a measurement range of 15 to 1200 cm, 1 cm resolution and a specified accuracy of ±(2 cm + S × 0.3%), the sensor can be used for both general distance monitoring and applications such as liquid level measurement. Here, S represents the measured value.

The radar sensing method can be advantageous in dusty or condensation-prone environments, where microwave radar may be less affected than some other distance-sensing technologies. The sensor communicates measurements over LoRaWAN, allowing data to be transmitted over long distances with low data rates and low power consumption.

How it works

  • The sensor uses 60 GHz FMCW microwave radar to measure the distance between the radar probe and the first detected object.
  • The measured distance can be transmitted through LoRaWAN 1.0.3 Class A.
  • The sensor can send data periodically and can also provide an uplink following an interrupt event.
  • Bluetooth v5.1 can be used for local configuration, while LoRaWAN remote configuration is also supported.
  • Wireless OTA firmware updates allow firmware to be updated without requiring a wired connection.

Why choose the MDS120-LB/LS?

  • 60 GHz radar sensing provides non-contact distance measurement.
  • The 15 to 1200 cm measuring range covers a broad range of monitoring applications.
  • Radar sensing can be useful where condensation or dust may affect other distance measurement technologies.
  • LoRaWAN communication allows measurements to be monitored remotely without requiring a wired data connection at the sensor.
  • Bluetooth configuration and OTA firmware support simplify device setup and ongoing maintenance.

Benefits

  • Suitable for remote distance and level monitoring.
  • Low-power operation supports long-term battery-powered deployment.
  • 1 cm resolution provides detailed distance measurement.
  • Supports a range of LoRaWAN frequency bands, including AS923 and AU915.
  • Battery level monitoring allows the device's power status to be included in remote monitoring.
